Decision Support Analysis

The concept of decision support may or may not be useful to you. Much of this work can be used for formal project management processes. You should be careful though not to believe the numbers without understanding the underlying models. I was trained in physics and learned the hard way that models are nice tools, but the real answers come form understanding the mechanics of how things work outside (the non-linear aspects) the model. Here are some resource I use:

  • Making Multiple Objective Decision, IEEE Computer Society Press. This handbook presents many of the issues with decision making processes. It is mathematically based and not an easy read, not should this subject be.

  • Making Hard Decisions, Robert T. Clemens, Duxbury Press, 1996. This is a text book on decision making. It presents many examples and the math is somewhat tractable.
